The character you control changes constantly, but all of the big battles are there and fans should be able to follow along no problem. In this mode, you get a cliff notes version of the game’s story in the form of a couple dozen chapters. If you’re counting, that’s four story arcs.

It’s time to see if Goku and company can give this franchise one last hurrah on the PSP, or if this is one series best left forgotten behind a string of newer, shinier DBZ games.ĭBZ: TTT is yet another game to follow the entire DBZ story from the attack of the Saiyans all the way to the end of the Buu saga. It had also been long enough since I played a DBZ fighting game from start to finish, so I was more than happy to review this game. Still, at least the tag team mechanic was a change from the series norm, bringing something new to the table. While Dissidia proved that a 3D fighting game can work on the PSP, I had some serious reservations about this game.

However, it seems NB isn’t afraid to continue to milk this cash cow dry, bringing the Tenkaichi version of the series to the PSP for the first time.

This was all but confirmed when the new fighting game on the block turned out to be Raging Blast. Although the move-list of the proposed characters is quite rich, most of the battles in which you will be called to take part will be overcome through the use of only the two attack buttons in a nutshell, special moves, saves and holds will only really be useful in front of a real opponent. With Namco Bandai taking the DBZ reigns from Atari, it looked as if the long running Budokai/Tenkaichi franchise had finally ended. The gameplay, which will certainly be familiar to anyone who has tried one of the recent titles dedicated to the brand, is simple and intuitive but at the same time lacking in great depth.

The mode is structured in two phases: one of free exploration, in which the protagonist on duty can be moved within the proposed scenario to reach places of interest or enemies, and one of combat, in which he is called to face the current enemies within classic three-dimensional arenas, whose dimensions are unfortunately quite contained. This is certainly not the best way to stimulate the interest of those who, like myself, would like to follow a story that, although known, always has a certain charm. The story is in fact characterized by several temporal holes, “plugged” by cold screens of text containing a few simple excerpts on situations or battles that occurred between two or more events of a certain importance. Having been a great lover of the brand, I therefore approached this modality with a certain interest (despite knowing the story now better than my pockets) but with a certain disappointment I found myself faced with a story that, albeit precise in its evolution, is told in a substantially approximate way. The main mode traces, in detail, all the events of the Z series.Īt the base of the product there is the “Way of the Dragon”, a campaign mode that allows you to retrace all the events of the Dragon Ball Z saga, from the arrival of Raditz to the final battle with Majin Buu.Įverything is presented through a series of episodes, each of which includes a certain amount of battles that we will necessarily have to successfully complete to continue in the storyline.

Open fights to four fighters can get really chaotic.

Who among you does not know Dragon Ball? Few, perhaps none, and it could not be otherwise given that in the last ten years the famous brand has achieved such worldwide success as to deserve endless television replicas of the animated series, numerous reprints of the famous manga and, of course, several dedicated video games.ĭragon Ball Z: Tenkaichi Tag Team is in fact only the latest in a long series of titles inspired by the Dragon Ball universe, and in the light of this, as long as you are passionate about the brand, at this point you are probably wondering about ‘ the actual need to take home yet another potential “clone” of a series that now seems to have run out of ideas.Īlthough I would very much like to be able to say the opposite, this title does not introduce anything really innovative and this means that anyone who already owns other products inspired by the universe created by Akira Toriyama, will not find anything that can push him to retrace, once again, the exploits of Goku and companions.
